This blog is to chronicle the life of our kids from birth and adoption into everyday occurances! We are a family on the go and I'm always yelling "Efird kids, to the car!"

Question for All You Other Adoptive Parents
So things had been going really great with Paxton. Then he got sick. He was sick for two weeks. In those two weeks, I held him a lot, carried him a lot, etc. Now he's well. And he's still wanting me to carry him every where. He's been home about 9 weeks now. Every time I set him down, whether I stay right next to him or I leave the room, he has major meltdowns. Like the kind of meltdowns with hyperventilating type of screaming at the top of his lungs. There are very rarely tears, so I'm pretty sure, okay I'm really sure that he's just throwing a fit. What do I do??? I'm at my wits end. He won't sit and play any more. I can't even pee alone. Also, at bed time, it's taking us about 2-3 hours to get him settled for the night. Is it too soon for us to let him cry it out? As soon as we go in to check on him, we lay him back down and just pat his back and it takes awhile, but he does finally go to sleep. Most of the time to just wake up 30 minutes later starting the whole process over. What have some of you done in these situations??!

Praise the Lord
For He is good.
We're pretty sure that Paxton is well on his way to being well again. He kept everything down yesterday. He didn't even have a dirty diaper until this morning and it was nothing compared to what we've dealt with all week. He was much more like himself this morning as well. He played in the floor and crawled throughout the house. He's taking his bottles again. And he actually slept pretty well last night. We're all feeling much better around here.
Last night was Bunco night at church. So much fun. It was a much needed break for me. I ate way too many chocolate covered strawberries that a friend made and had brownies. Oh it was good! Tomorrow we're also having potluck at our church and I can't wait for that either! We don't have them very often b/c we don't have the space for everyone.
Thank you all so much for the prayers and comforting words.

Hanging in there
Today we went back to the doctor. He was still throwing up and having yucky diapers this morning. So off we went. His ears are still infected so they gave him another shot of antibiotics and said that if he's not better, meaning, no throwing up with small amounts of food and or clear liquids and very little poop, that they may have to admit him to the hospital for observation and give him fluids through an IV again. He is doing much better today though. Only the one bout of each this morning, but nothing since then. Of course he's only had about 4 ounces of pedialite and some applesauce.....The doctor also wants me to get a stool sample to him so they can see if he has rotavirus. He thinks this is what he has had this week. We'll see though. I just hope that he doesn't have any more yucky diapers! I've had my fill of poop and vomit for a very very long time!
Prayers today: That he will continue to keep down all liquids and food that he eats today. That he will have no more diarrhea. That his ears will heal with these antibiotics. That no one else gets sick! And that we would all get a good night of sleep tonight.
Thank you all so much for the prayers and well wishes this week. I have definitely been feeling them. I'm not sure how else I would be functioning since I've had very very little sleep this week.

Day too many to count....
We had a pretty good day today. Paxton held down his food and liquids until tonight. He started throwing up again tonight, but I think it was my fault for giving him to rich of food for dinner. He is still having really yucky diapers though. Hopefully this will stop. If not, we'll have to take him in for some more testing. Brent is sick as well. Please pray for him. He had to miss work today and in his line of work right now, it's really imperative that he not miss any work. It is frowned upon to miss class. I'm feeling a little queasy, but am taking much medicine to keep from acutally getting sick! I had a nice bowl of malt o meal and toast for dinner! Hopefully and prayerfully no one else will get sick.

The Saga Continues
Last night we had a scare with Paxton. He had his first visit to the emergency room. He's been so sick lately and last night he got dehydrated. We waited a couple of hours to be seen, but once we did, they hooked him up to an IV and got him some fluids and anti nausea meds, plus both of his ears are still infected after two other antibiotics. So they gave him something for that as well. He fell asleep after we did the IV and slept most of the time that we were there. His color came back and he kept down some pedialyte. We got home at 4:30 this morning. Brent pretty much had to sleep 3 hours and get up and go to work (at the nuclear plant! good thing he's in class right now) and I got to stay home with Paxton and rest. He's doing much better tonight. He's kept down all his fluids today plus some mashed potatoes!
Prayers would still be much appreciated!

And again...
So today during services at church, Brent was feeding Paxton. Paxton fell asleep and then all of a sudden he wakes up and pukes all over Brent. Brent brings him to me in the nursery thinking he's just spit up his entire bottle. So I'm holding him and then he throws up all over me. So I had him back to Brent and he does the same to Brent again! Needless to say, we left church as soon as I could get out of nursery! Brent's mom took the big kids to her house for the afternoon! Thank goodness for that!
Paxton is still throwing up. He's thrown up several times now. He's had a couple of really nasty diapers. Right now he's sleeping. He hasn't been able to keep much of anything down at all. If he's still sickly tomorrow we'll be back at the doctor again! He has slept through the night the past two nights! Hopefully he'll do the same tonight. He needs the rest and it's really been the only time today that he hasn't fussed from not feeling well or that he hasn't been throwing up.
Prayers that he would get well and that the rest of us wouldn't get sick would be much appreciated!

And there's more...
So not only did we have an ear infection, but we had some kind of evil reaction to the antibiotic we were on. Paxton started his meds on Saturday. On Monday he cried, ALL day long. Then Monday night, he started with the poop and vomit. By Tuesday morning he was still pooping and throwing up some. I called the doctor and they said he was definitely having some kind of reaction to the meds. SO we changed it. Tuesday he slept most of the day. Today, he played a little bit and then he fussed a lot. Then suprise suprise, we had a call from our social worker saying he wanted to do our first post placement visit this afternoon. SO at 4 this afternoon, we met with him and his wife for about 30 minutes. He asked pretty much just a few questions about growth and adjustment and then wanted to hear about our trip. So it wasn't stressful or anything, BUT I would have liked more of a warning! Especially since I had to get 8 pictures of him printed off today and ready for the social worker! Paxton did fuss pretty much the whole time they were here, but tonight he's feeling much better. He's playing with Brent right now and it's seriously the happiest we've seen him since about this time last week!

We've Caught It...
Paxton has finally caught the ear infection bug. On Friday after nap he got really fussy and I picked him up and he was HOT. He was running a 102.9 fever. So off to the doctor we went. He has a bad ear infection. He was pretty good all weekend, but today he has been a pill. He has literally cried all day today. All. Day. He hasn't eaten much of anything other than a couple of bottles of milk. He's coughed so hard and even not so hard enough that he's thrown up twice today. Needless to say, we've had a long day in our house. It's also laundry day here. I had 10 loads of laundry to do today. I have 7 or 8 of them done. Don't ask me how. I've held Paxton all day long. I've changed clothes twice b/c of the whole throw up thing. And I have to get off here and quit giving myself a pity party b/c yet again, I have a fussy baby!

Happy Ground Hog's Day
I love reading to see whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow! I remember in school always doing an art project on this day! It was always such fun!
I doubt Xavier even hears about it at school today. Speaking of things he'll never hear at school....how many of you parents with older children have realized that they are no longer teaching cursive writing in public school? How are these kids ever going to be able to sign their names? You can't sign loan documents, a marriage license, a driver's license, or any legal paper without a signature. Not just printing your name. It's a sad sad world in the public education system in America.
So I'm sitting here watching Sesame Street with Naia and all of a sudden I hear, dink, dink. You know the sound from any Law & Order show. And out comes Det. Elliot Stabler to talk about the mail! Too funny! Like those kids even know that he plays a detective on t.v.! I'm sure that was a little treat for the mothers out there......
Paxton is taking about 7 steps unasssisted now! I was working on his baby book last night and it's crazy how all of the pages are already quickly getting filled up! He also has 6 teeth right now. Four on the bottom and two on the top.
Naia is getting obsessed with writing us letters. It's nothing by curvy lines but, she will read them to us and it's always so funny to hear what she's wanting to tell us. I just got a letter from her that says, "I love mommy, daddy, and Xavier, and even Paxton. And I saw a rainbow." Too cute! She's also walking around in her snow white high heels today! She's such a girly girl!
